Salsa Social Night Is Back — And This One Is Going to Hit Different

Your guide to what's happening, what to expect, and why you need to be there on March 06, 2026.

If you've ever stood on the sidelines of a dance floor wishing you had the courage to just go for it—this is your sign.

On Friday, March 06, 2026, Happy Feet Dance Studio is throwing open the doors to one of Oshawa's most electric Latin dance events of the year. Salsa Social Night returns with live music, beginner classes, social dancing, and an energy in the room that you genuinely cannot replicate anywhere else in the city.

And the best part? You don't need experience. You don't need a partner. You just need to show up.

What Is Salsa Social Night?

Salsa Social Night is Happy Feet Dance Studio's signature Latin dance event—a three-hour experience that blends structured learning with pure, uninhibited social dancing.

The first hour is dedicated to classes. The next two hours belong to the floor.

We designed this event specifically to remove every barrier that stops people from trying dance for the first time. No dress code. No partner requirement. No experience necessary. Just a room full of people who love music, movement, and good company.

Whether you're walking in for the very first time or you've been dancing with us for years, Salsa Social Night meets you exactly where you are.

Here's What the Night Looks Like

🚪 Doors Open: 7:50 PM

📍 14 King Street West, 2nd Floor, Downtown Oshawa

🎟 Entry: $15 + HST

8:00 PM – 9:00 PM | Classes

We split the floor into two - three dedicated class zones so every level gets proper instruction. Drop into any class at any point during the hour—there's no wrong entry point.

Beginner Salsa Never danced before? This is your starting line. In 45 minutes, you'll walk away with real footwork, real timing, and real confidence. Our instructors have taught thousands of first-timers and know exactly how to make the process feel natural and fun.

Beginner Bachata Bachata is one of the most accessible Latin dances in the world—and one of the most addictive. If you've ever nodded your head to a slow, rhythmic Latin beat, you already feel it. Tonight we just give it a name and a set of steps.

Intermediate Salsa Already have the basics? Good. Tonight we push further. Timing refinement, footwork sharpening, and partner connection work that separates dancers who know the steps from dancers who own the floor.

9:00 PM – 11:00 PM | The Social

This is the part people get excited about.

The classes end, the energy shifts, and the real night begins. Here's what you can expect from 9 PM to close:

🎶 Live Music — There is a fundamental difference between dancing to a playlist and dancing to live music. The energy is alive, unpredictable, and deeply infectious. You'll feel it the moment it starts.

💃 Social Dancing — Take everything from the class hour and put it into practice on a full, open floor. Dance with strangers. Dance with friends. Dance by yourself. All of it is welcome here.

🕺 Line Dances — One of the most fun parts of the night. No partner needed. Just follow along, laugh when you miss a step, and do it again. Line dances are a crowd favorite every single time.

Dance Demos — Watch our instructors and advanced students perform. These moments are genuinely inspiring—and more than a few of our current competitive dancers trace their journey back to watching a demo at an event just like this one.

🥂 Chat, Connect & Party — The Happy Feet Dance Studio community is one of the warmest, most welcoming groups of people you'll find anywhere in Oshawa. Come ready to make real connections. These friendships have a way of lasting well beyond the dance floor.

Why Salsa and Bachata? Here's What These Dances Actually Do For You

We're not just throwing a party. We genuinely believe that Latin dance is one of the most powerful tools for physical health, mental wellness, and social connection available to anyone—at any age.

Here's the science and the soul behind tonight's two featured dances.

Salsa — The Dance That Wakes You Up

Salsa is a New York story with a Caribbean soul. Born from the explosive collision of Cuban son, Puerto Rican rhythms, and American jazz, it is fast, sharp, and completely alive. It wasn’t just a dance created in the streets of NYC; it was a cultural movement that gave the world a new pulse.

Physically, Salsa is a cardiovascular powerhouse. A single hour of social dancing can burn between 300 and 500 calories while simultaneously sharpening coordination, reaction time, and lower-body agility. Unlike the treadmill, you won't be watching the clock; you’ll be chasing the beat.

Mentally, Salsa demands absolute presence. You cannot mentally rehearse your grocery list while navigating a fast-paced partner turn-pattern. This forced mindfulness is why dancers consistently report lower stress levels and improved mood post-class. The syncopation of the music acts as a reset button for the nervous system, providing a mental clarity that few other activities can replicate.

Socially, Salsa is a universal language. Walk into any Latin social in Tokyo, London, or Bogota, and you already share a dialect with every person in the room. That kind of instant belonging is rare—and it starts with learning the basics.

Bachata — The Dance That Connects You

Bachata was born in the rural heart of the Dominican Republic. For decades, it was dismissed as "music of the streets," a bittersweet rhythm that lived in the shadows before the world finally caught up to its beauty. Today, it has evolved into a global phenomenon and one of the fastest-growing partner dances on the planet.

Physically, Bachata develops hip mobility and core stability in a way most traditional fitness routines completely ignore. The signature side-to-side cadence, punctuated by a hip accent on the fourth beat, encourages lateral flexibility and strengthens the stabilizing muscles of the pelvis. When practiced with proper technique, this fluidity translates into better posture and a more resilient lower back.

Mentally, Bachata slows you down in the best possible way. If Salsa is fire, Bachata is feeling. It moves at a more deliberate pace, demanding a different kind of focus. It teaches you to listen—to the subtle nuances of the guitar, to your partner, and to your own body’s center of gravity. That quality of deep, active listening is an antidote to the noise of modern life.

Socially, Bachata builds emotional intelligence. There is an inherent closeness to the dance that often pushes beginners slightly outside their comfort zone. Navigating that proximity in a safe, community-focused environment is exactly where real confidence is built. It’s not just about the steps; it’s about the connection.

Your Instructors Tonight

The classes at Salsa Social Night are led by two of the most accomplished dance professionals in the region. These are not just teachers—they are active competitors who bring real, current, high-level experience directly into the studio.

Sharon Levit — World-Class Ballroom Champion & Co-Owner

Sharon has spent decades at the highest levels of competitive Ballroom dance, competing actively across Canada and earning recognition as one of the most technically gifted instructors in the country. What makes Sharon exceptional as a teacher is his ability to translate world-class technique into language that a complete beginner can understand and immediately apply.

Sharon is also the architect of Happy Feet's Pro-Am competitive program—personally scouting and selecting students he believes have the potential to compete. More than a few of those conversations started at a social night just like this one.

Omar Choque — Latin Specialist & Co-Owner

Omar is the driving force behind Happy Feet's Salsa and Bachata curriculum. His competitive resume includes performances at some of Canada's most prestigious Latin dance events, including La Classique Du Québec. On the floor, Omar dances with a joy and precision that is immediately contagious—and in the classroom, he has a rare gift for making every student feel capable from their very first step.

Omar also offers personal mentorship to students he identifies as strong candidates for competitive training. If that interests you, tonight is a great place to start that conversation.
